Home Education Curriculum Design

“Education is not the filling of a bucket but the lighting of a fire.”
We believe that the role of the Educator is to nurture and stimulate a child’s curiosity and innate desire to learn with a wide range of books, alive with ideas, that invite the child to draw their own conclusions about what they are learning within a nurturing environment where the dignity of the child is honored.
To facilitate this:
1. A detailed questionnaire is filled out by the parents (and at the high school level by the student.)

2. Former transcripts, educational records & information are analyzed to help determine the student’s learning style, strengths, and areas needing development.

3. An interview and consultation session is scheduled to design a customized curriculum including:

  • Living books and other learning materials recommended from a wide variety of fine resources.
  • Recommended project learning, unit studies, independent study, field trips, and community activities.
  • Following Charlotte Masons’ Approach our curriculum design emphasizes “Living Books,” Fine Arts, Music, Poetry, Nature Study, Verbal and Writing Skills, Self Motivated Learning, Good Life Habits, Real Life Experiences.
  • We incorporate other Home Education Methodologies including the Classical approach, Computer Based Learning, Unit Study, etc. to best meet individual learning goals.

4. Organizational goals and an estimated time line are determined to allow the student to move at his or her own pace through the year.

5. The program remains dynamic and flexible as progress is discussed and reviewed quarterly.
